SYNOPSIS
"The sky of the moon" tells the story of the inner journey
of a woman who has acquired an enviable social and professional identity,
a husband who loves her, a splendid house, everything that could make her
happy. Yet despite all this she feels something is missing. Perhaps she
almost suspects that her achievement may even be a failure, and so she begins
to search for what she has lost. Along the way she meets a strange figure,
who seems to be a university professor at the beginning of the film, but
turns out to be a vagabond. The vagabond represents rebellion against the
society of "normal people", and as she relates to him the protagonist
overcomes the sense of emptiness which had · possessed her. In
him she discovers a primitive realisation, almost at the limits of animality,
which leads her to abandon her husband and, as the film ends, to turn her
shoulders on the vagabond as well as she continues on her way.
PRODUCTION NOTES
After collaborating with Marco Bellocchio on three films, the psychiatrist
Massimo Fagioli has directed his first feature film, the first case in the
history of cinema of a psychiatrist turned director. It is a beautifully
directed film, in the style of film-makers such as Bergman, Tarkovskij and
Antonioni. The film was shot at weekends over a period of eight months using
non-professional actors. The performance that Massimo Fagioli has obtained
from Simona Facchini, the lead female character - who in real life is an
architect - is absolutely stunning. Massimo Fagioli himself plays the part
of a mysterious vagabond. The soundtrack was produced in collaboration with
an internationally renowned jazz musician, Enrico Pieranunzi.
